How Long to Avoid the Following Products Before Your Appointment
- Over-the-counter dental products (NO brushing, NO flossing, NO mouthwash, NO gum/mints)
30 min prior - Prescription-strength antimicrobial or antibiotic rinses
Such as Chlorhexidine, Perioguard or prescription stannous fluoride products (ie Pardontax or Sensodyne for gum health)
24 hours prior - Dental procedures that disrupt biofilm such as scaling and root planing or a routine dental cleaning
2 weeks prior - No antibiotics for recent conditions such as a sinus infection, common cold, or any other acute condition, etc.
6 weeks prior - No local antibiotics placed in a periodontal pocket in a dental office (ie: Arestin)
4 weeks prior
*You CAN take your daily medications as prescribed and any antibiotics (pre-med) taken prior to your dental cleanings
