Thank you for trusting us with your dental care! To ensure proper healing and the longevity of your new crown or bridge, please follow these post-operative instructions:

Temporary Crown or Bridge

  • Numbness Precautions: If you received anesthesia during the procedure, your lips, teeth, and tongue may remain numb for several hours. To prevent accidental injury, avoid chewing and consuming hot beverages until the numbness has completely worn off.
  • Avoid Sticky or Hard Foods: Temporary restorations are not as strong as permanent ones. To prevent dislodging or damaging the temporary crown, avoid chewing gum, caramel, nuts, hard candies, and other sticky or hard foods.
  • Be Careful While Flossing: When flossing around the temporary crown, slide the floss out instead of pulling it up to prevent dislodging.
  • Sensitivity is Normal: You may experience mild sensitivity to hot, cold, or pressure. The sensitivity should improve as your tooth adjusts.
  • If the Temporary Falls Off, Call our office immediately. If necessary, you can temporarily place it back using over-the-counter dental cement or toothpaste.

Permanent Crown or Bridge

  • Numbness Precautions: If you received anesthesia, avoid chewing until the numbness wears off to prevent biting your cheek or tongue.
  • Mild Discomfort is Expected: For a few days, some sensitivity or soreness around the gums is normal. Over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen can
    help.
  • Oral Hygiene is Key: Brush and floss normally, but take extra care around the new restoration. If you have a bridge, use floss threaders or interdental brushes to clean
    underneath.
  • Adjusting to Your Bite: Getting used to the new crown or bridge may take a few days. If your bite feels uneven or uncomfortable after a few days, contact us for an adjustment.

Long-Term Care

  • Maintain Regular Checkups: Routine dental visits help us monitor the condition of your crown or bridge.
  • Use a Nightguard if Recommended: If you grind your teeth, a nightguard can protect your restoration from excessive wear.
  • Watch for Signs of Trouble: If you experience persistent pain or swelling or your crown/bridge feels loose, contact our office promptly.
