Hygiene Post-Op Instructions
Post-op Instructions for Periodontal Therapy
Today, we completed one of your periodontal therapy appointments. We treated the infection by removing plaque and tartar to detoxify the root surfaces and ligament. The periodontal pockets were irrigated with chlorhexidine.
RESUME: Normal brushing and flossing this evening.
USE:
- Ibuprofen or Motrin as needed for discomfort.
- Perioscience gel 4-5 times daily for the initial 2 weeks and continue at least 1 time daily until your 6-week follow-up appointment.
IMPORTANT:
- The 6-week periodontal maintenance appointment is when we assess healing and determine if additional therapy is needed.
- Keep all scheduled periodontal therapy appointments to complete your treatment.
- Periodontal disease is not curable. Therapy goals include stability and disease remission. Keeping your scheduled periodontal maintenance appointments is the most effective way to control your periodontal disease along with consistent and good oral home care routines.
POST-OP INSTRUCTIONS FOR PLACEMENT OF ARESTIN
Arestin is a 1mg dose of minocycline hydrochloride. When used in conjunction with periodontal therapies, the healing is more effective. Arestin remains in the pocket for 21 days. Indicated periodontal pockets greater than 4mm with bleeding received Arestin.
